Arcane Chef

T.J. Ward

A LitRPG progression fantasy where cooking becomes combat. Trevor trains his whole childhood for a life of warriors and adventure, only to be assigned the rare support Class [Arcane Chef] at the choosing — a class with no known history or levelling path. Treating food as magic, he discovers that Arcane Chef cuisine grants party-wide buffs, unlocks hidden skill evolutions, and scales with rare ingredients and dungeon-sourced recipes. As ancient beings stir and his reputation grows with the Polite Company, Trevor must master his class, travel the kingdom, and learn that some recipes are worth killing for — all while leveling through explicit LitRPG mechanics.

Progression: Verified LitRPG Class progression (Goodreads series 443723, Book 1-2 blurbs + Goodreads + Royal Road). (1) Class & Level Ladder: The world uses explicit LitRPG Classes assigned at 'choosing day'. Trevor receives the ultra-rare support Class [Arcane Chef] (Book 1: 'It's a rare support class with no known history or levelling path... as soon as he figures out how to level up'). Advancement is via gaining XP, unlocking Class Skills, and discovering the hidden leveling path for his unique class. Each level unlocks new cooking techniques and combat-applicable buffs. (2) Cooking-as-Magic Buff System: Arcane Chef abilities are tied to recipes — cooking amazing food grants temporary stat buffs, resistances, and party-wide enhancements. Book 2 notes 'some recipes are worth killing for, and some meals could change the fate of the kingdom' and reviews mention infinite storage with time-stop enabling batch-cooking and skill-synergy combos. Progression requires sourcing rare ingredients (shadow cat, ancient beings, dungeon drops) and experimenting with buff combinations. (3) Party & Reputation Scaling: Progression is also social/reputation-based — traveling with the 'Polite Company', building a place to belong, and gaining notoriety unlocks new regions, patrons, and higher-tier recipe challenges. Reviews confirm low-stakes yet compelling earned progression where each book expands the skill set and world tiers.
