Beneath the Dragoneye Moons

Selkie Myth

Winner of the 2021 Stabby Award. Elaine is ripped from Earth to Pallos, a world where a grand System makes classes, skills and magic real. What starts as a fight to survive dinosaurs, civil strife and a hostile theocracy becomes a decades-long bildungsroman: Elaine hustles for mangos, dodges arranged marriage to the awful Kerberos, and finds purpose as a healer who would rather punch problems than pray. With System-crafted Classes like [Healer] -> [Celestial Healer], [Fire Mage] and later [Ranger], levels, stats and Skills define power, politics and who gets to eat whom — while the twin Dragoneye Moons watch every choice.

Progression: Explicit LitRPG System central to every arc. Upon arrival on Pallos each person receives a System: numeric Level (1-100+), Classes with ranks (e.g., [Healer], [Celestial Healer], [Fire Mage], [Ranger]/[Ranger Trainee]), and Skills granted at each level (e.g., [Celestial Restoration], [Fireball], [Range Sense]). Stats (Vitality, Strength, Dexterity, etc.) and mana scale with level; Skills level individually with use and evolve into higher tiers. Class consolidation and evolution gates access to prestige Classes, spellcraft, crafting and Ranger special-forces training. Levels are displayed via blue stat windows, foregrounded in every chapter; grinding dungeon-like ant nests, plague cures, Gladiator Gauntlets and Academy exams all gate the next breakthrough. Later volumes add third Classes, Wizardry/Sorcery distinctions, biomancy and third-class acquisition at the School of Sorcery and Spellcraft.
