Dungeon Core Online: Remastered Edition
Jonathan Smidt
James thought he would be just another adventurer in the world's most anticipated dungeon-delving VRMMORPG, Dungeon Core Online. Instead he is selected as a Dungeon Core — choosing 'Random' as his dungeon type — and must build a dungeon from demonic farm animals (chickens, kamikaze sheep, enraged cows) with the help of a sardonic AI pixie, Rue. As DCO evolves with patches, dungeon-vs-dungeon warfare, new floors, and a global conspiracy involving Cyb3Ru5 and Hades, James and Rue expand the dungeon, unlock new mechanics, and confront real-world stakes. The series is a revised novelization of the Royal Road web serial Dungeon Core Online by Glyax.
Progression: Explicit dungeon-core progression is central and continuously foregrounded. Core system: James as a Dungeon Core gains power by expanding his dungeon floor-by-floor, each floor gated behind essence/resource thresholds and introducing a new Random mob type (Tier 1: demonic farm animals; subsequent floors add sea monsters, zombie megalodons, etc.). Progression is formalized via Core Levels, dungeon tiers/floors, mob evolution, trap crafting, and player-driven dungeon leveling that scales with adventurer delving. Player progression runs in parallel via VRMMORPG levels, perks, and abilities. Later arcs add PvP Dungeon Wars, inter-dungeon Gates, economic progression, and world-event patches that force the core to adapt mechanics and unlock higher-tier abilities. The narrative is structured around unlocking floors, mastering Random mobs, and surviving tournament/endgame events, with each volume adding a new floor and power tier.
