Hidden Wishes
Tao Wong
One fateful day Henry Tsien finds a briefcase and a ring within it, and a helpful jinn introduces him to a hidden world of age-old supernatural creatures. An old-school gamer given real magic, Henry becomes a low-leveled Mage who must survive, level up and pay his rent while shadowy organisations circle. Across three books he allies with Knight Templar Initiate Alexa Dumough and finally must decide the fate of the wishing ring itself. The Hidden Wishes series is an urban fantasy take on the GameLit genre - the complete trilogy.
Progression: GameLit/LitRPG progression central and explicit: protagonist Henry Tsien becomes a newly created low-leveled Mage via a jinn wish and must level up to survive, with a game-like user interface mediating magical growth across the trilogy. Book 2 adds a parallel ranked ladder as ally Alexa Dumough undertakes the Knights Templar test to become a Squire through trials testing patience, skills and magic. Volumes escalate from solo survival/leveling against shadowy supernatural organisations to paired trials and finally a trilogy-capping contest over the wishing ring itself. Verified via Goodreads series/book blurbs (low-leveled Mage, level up, game-like user interface, Squire test).
