Irwin's Journey

John Carrarn

Irwin, a sickly youth with terrible luck, is gifted a strange utility card by his returning brother and sent to placate sorcerers. What begins as a desperate bid to survive becomes an epic multi-world journey of power, friendship, and discovery. Central to his growth is the card-forging system: magical cards that strengthen his body, grant abilities, and evolve through crafting. Guided by a mysterious sentient anvil and through deadly portals, Irwin learns to forge cards, survives demon-infested forests, and seeks the legendary Portal Gallery — the endless nexus of the Smiths Guild that connects all worlds and holds the key to saving his family and world.

Progression: Explicit, central card-crafting LitRPG progression. Irwin receives a unique utility card and later a sentient anvil that teaches him to forge cards. Each card physically strengthens his body, grants utility/combat abilities, and can be upgraded through materials, experience, and forging skill. Advancement is quantified via card tiers, body reinforcement, and portal-world power scaling; surviving portals, defeating demons/monsters, and gathering rarer cards drive measurable growth. The Portal Gallery / Smiths Guild nexus provides a tiered endgame progression gate — legendary portals that no one has returned from, connecting all worlds. Described consistently as 'new cards slowly strengthening his body' (Book 2) and journey across worlds gathering 'friends, enemies, and power' (Book 1), with forging mastery as the core loop from novice to Smith.
