The Hedge Wizard
Alex Maher
Multiple magic systems, spells stolen from the gods, and an undefined path of progression, The Hedge Wizard brings a realism-focused spin to GameLit / LitRPG. Explore a world of long forgotten legends, where the Gods now reign and monsters roam. Legends speak of wizards with the power to rival Gods... To Hump, it’s just a story. Apprenticed to a wandering hedge wizard whose spellbook binds to his soul after the master dies, Hump heads out alone into a world of dungeons and monsters to earn coin and prove that one does not have to be Chosen to do great deeds as the Wanderer and White Flame.
Progression: Hedge Wizard Magic + Book of Infinite Pages + Soul-Bond Progression: Wizards are scorned by the gods and lack the godly gifts of the Chosen; they must steal spells from gods and inscribe them into personal spellbooks. Hump inherits his master’s Book of Infinite Pages which binds to his soul and offers an undefined, self-forged path with multiple interlocking magic systems (including essence/soul manipulation and dragon soul imprint from the Wolf Dragon). Structured advancement comes via dungeon delves (Bledsbury Dungeon, newly spawned dungeons), monster surges, Trials of the Dragon Keeper, Inquisition and Countess Daston faction quests, and escalation from adventuring party skirmishes to city-wide monster wars. The dragon soul-egg bond and the Book’s evolving pages provide tiered power growth distinct from the gods’ Chosen blessings, central to every volume’s stakes and training arcs. Tags confirm GameLit/LitRPG realism focus rather than system menus, but progression via spell acquisition, soul mastery, and dungeon-driven levels is explicit and central.
