Traveler's Gate Trilogy

Will Wight

Simon can only watch, helpless, as his family is killed and his village destroyed by enemy Travelers — men and women who summon mystical powers from otherworldly Territories. When a friend is revealed as the prophesied savior, Simon has no prophecy, no special powers, and no guarantee of survival — only the hope of becoming a Traveler himself. A completed trilogy following Simon, Leah and Alin through war, Incarnations, and Territories gone mad.

Progression: Travelers draw powers by mentally visiting otherworldly Territories (such as Lirial, Tartarus, Elysia, Ragnarus) and advancing deeper within them; each Territory grants distinct abilities and each deeper room/level grants greater power. Advancement is explicit and central — non-Travelers are powerless, and characters progress from weak initiates to masters contending with Incarnations (beings embodying Territory powers). Rival nations (Enosh, Damasca) organize around Traveler strength.
