In Loki's Honor
MDW
Earth is in turmoil. Youngsters vanish worldwide as rumors of the end of the world, gods and dimensional travel gain traction. A New York computer engineer is chosen as Loki's secret champion — the half-Jotunn deity needs a pawn in the Asgardian conflict. Cursed to die 100 times and tossed into a barbaric virgin world, the champion must escape prosecution by the local pantheon while living dozens upon dozens of lives, growing and evolving in an uncaring, brutal world. From the lowest organism to the apex of the food chain, seizing ultimate power only to discover a higher peak remains — all while trying to escape Loki's wicked machinations and save a sliver of the multiverse from annihilation. Winner of the 2022 November Royal Road writing contest.
Progression: Explicit, central 100-life reincarnation progression is the engine of the entire series. The protagonist is cursed to die and reincarnate 100 times, each life serving as a distinct tier of growth — from lowliest organism upward through successive evolutionary stages and power ranks in a brutal cultivation-like world. Every death resets the physical form but preserves accumulated knowledge, skills and soul-strength, enabling stepwise advancement toward apex-predator status and beyond. Progression is quantified via life-count (Life 0 to Life 100), biological/evolutionary ranks and magic mastery that gate survival against the local pantheon and monsters. The narrative foregrounds level-like jumps between lives, power-scale breakthroughs and the discovery that each 'ultimate' peak reveals a higher one, making the 100-life ladder the explicit, measurable spine of all arcs. Royal Road genres: LitRPG, Progression, Summoned Hero, Psychological, Female Lead.
