Path of the Berserker
Rick Scott
When the cultivators came to Earth, they destroyed our entire civilization in a matter of hours. Armies fell, cities burned, and the moon turned red and filled the world with monsters. Over a decade later, humanity slaves under the Qi-infused Dynasty. Max, a Terran tired of serving, is found by a fearsome, angry goddess who shows him a different path — not Qi, but the power of blood, rage, and pain. Through the hidden Berserker art, he cultivates an alternative progression to challenge the 14,000-year-old intergalactic cultivation empire. Spanning the Core Realm, Sacred Soul Realm and beyond, with Terran Sects, the Legionnaire's Academy of Du Gok Bhong, Hell Worlds and Cursed Stars, the series is a western-style cultivation / post-apocalypse progression fantasy (5 books, 2023-2025, 4.39-4.66 Goodreads). Each volume escalates from Earth's resistance to interstellar academy trials, Hell World survival, and eldritch demon wars, all driven by rage-fueled martial cultivation.
Progression: Explicit dual-track cultivation is central. The dominant system is Qi cultivation under the Dynasty (Qi ranks, Core Realm, Sacred Soul Realm, tiers within each). The MC instead follows the hidden Berserker art — an alternative path powered by blood, rage, and pain that advances independently of Qi. Progression is measured by realm breakthroughs: Core Realm (with internal tiers e.g., 8th Tier Core Realm in Book 3) → Sacred Soul Realm (Books 4-5, 'edge of Sacred Soul Realm') → beyond, plus imperial status ranks (Gold Bracket contender, Legionnaire) and sect founding (Terran Sect). Academy arc (Du Gok Bhong) provides formal tiered trials, Hell Worlds provide combat-based advancement, and Dao comprehension (twin Dao: destroy/protect the empire) gates higher realms. Each book is structured around a breakthrough or trial that forces the MC to grow stronger to match cultivators, spirit beasts, and demonic foes.
