Holt Cook was never meant to be a dragon rider. A kitchen servant in the Order Hall of the Crag, he defies the Order to rescue a blind dragon egg doomed for culling. As the undead Scourge rises and dragon riders are slaughtered, Holt must cultivate the mysterious power of his dragon Ash's magical core to survive and prove a servant can be worthy. The series follows Holt, Ash, and Queen Talia across Feorlen as they confront Sovereign, Elder Dragons, and ancient magic.
Progression: Dragon-bond cultivation system centered on the dragon's magical core. Riders and dragons advance together by cultivating core energy, strengthening their empathic bond, and unlocking new magical abilities. Progression is explicit and tiered: dragons grow from hatchling to mature Elder tiers, riders advance from squire to Champion to Lord-level, with distinct magical disciplines (fire, lunar, life, etc.) and core-rank breakthroughs. Elder Dragons represent pinnacle tiers. Advancement requires core cultivation, combat trials, and magical comprehension, directly echoing cultivation realm breakthroughs and LitRPG level structures.
