The Ethersmith
Matias Kallio
The world moved on from runesmiths. Vivi didn't. Cursed from birth to die at eighteen, Vivi is a masterful runesmith whose family has solved runeswords' fatal flaw. When a rebellious spirit bonds with her against his handler's will, she becomes a fugitive and lands in an inescapable demonic prison — only to find it is an endless dungeon of monsters. Now an ether hunter, Vivi harvests ether from beasts, hones her spirit's power, and tests her runeswords while learning to wield them. From the prison's fifth level to catastrophic storm seasons spawning behemoths and godslayers, Vivi must push inside-carving to terrifying heights, confront corrupt ether hunters, and forge a war as the world's greatest runesmith.
Progression: Runesmith / Ether Hunter Crafting & Combat Progression. Core advancement is via ether cultivation harvested from monsters: Vivi bonds with a rebellious spirit, becomes an ether hunter, and levels her spirit's power by harvesting ether in an endless demonic prison/dungeon. Crafting progression is runesmithing — forging runeswords and pushing inside-carving techniques to new heights (family secret fixing runeswords' fatal flaw). Each book escalates: Book 1 prison escape and learning to wield runeswords; Book 2 continued crafting/combat mastery; Book 3 defending Shivenar through worst storm season with behemoths/godslayers requiring next-tier runesword innovation and confronting the corrupt hunter system; Book 4 ongoing abyss threats. Royal Road origin with nearly a million views; narrative tagline emphasizes 'pursues both crafting and combat while ignoring warnings about things being impossible or forbidden.'
