Threads of Destiny
Yrsillar
Threads of Destiny is the continuation of Forge of Destiny, continuing the xianxia cultivation epic of Ling Qi — a street orphan turned disciple of the Argent Peak Sect. After surviving the Outer Sect tournament and attaining the Inner Sect, Ling Qi must navigate retainer politics under Cai Renxiang, master her dual cultivation of wind-shadow and dream, and face incursions from southern hill tribes and deep-earth horrors. As a sequel to one of Royal Road's most-read progression fantasies (7M+ reads), it blends sect hierarchy, spiritual arts, and slow-burn character growth with factional war and diplomacy, exemplifying cultivation progression where every volume is a realm breakthrough.
Progression: Cultivation-based progression is central and explicit, verified via Goodreads Destiny Cycle series 327667 and per-volume blurbs. Mechanics: (1) Cultivation Realms — Red (Early/Mid/Late), Yellow, Green (Appraisal/Early/Mid/Late), Cyan, Indigo, Violet, Prism, White; each major realm requires consolidating qi, opening meridians, and surviving tribulations; Threads volumes 1-6 track Ling Qi's ascent from Green toward Cyan/Indigo while mastering her Domain. (2) Sect Ranks — Outer Disciple → Inner Disciple → Core Disciple → Elder, gated by tournament results, contribution points and master selection; retainer-to-heiress status (Cai Renxiang's retainer) adds noble rank progression and barony implications. (3) Arts & Spirit Bonds — ranked Arts (e.g., Forgotten Vale Melody, Sable Crescent Step, Phantasmal Mastery) with discrete levels/masteries and spirit companions (Zhengui, Hanyi) who cultivate in parallel, gaining evolutions. (4) Way/Domain — conceptual cultivation of Ling Qi's Way (isolation/community, endings/renewal) measured by insights and Domain manifestations; Dream realm mastery in later volumes provides quantifiable milestones. (5) Power quantification — every volume's Goodreads description references advancement, tribulations, and realm thresholds, making structured cultivation the narrative engine, not backdrop.
