Cyborg samurai Cat LeBlanc takes charge when aliens overrun Burlington, Vermont — only to discover humans may be the greater threat. The Antithesis flora has rooted underground spawning instinct-driven monsters. With three rookie samurai and dwindling resources, Cat is assigned command despite her anti-authoritarian streak. In Burlington she confronts River Heights' private militia, undisciplined trainees, and power brokers, needing to forge a fighting force while the hive-minded Antithesis plans to spread contagion across Earth.
